David Reeve – Thigh Slappin’ Boogie

As a singer/songwriter I’m always looking for a new inspiration. My co-writer, Bruce Speirs and I, were at Melbourne’s Wesley Anne venue where our friends Laura and Andy, The Golden Guitar winning ‘The Weeping Willows’ were performing. Laura mentions on an album cover’s credits that she supplies percussion with her thigh slappin’.

On the night at Wesley Anne, Bruce and I noticed there wasn’t much thigh slapping going on so next day we sat down and wrote a fun song about Laura’s thigh slapping. I played it to them the next night and they loved it.

I started to play the song at my gigs and was getting a great reaction, particularly from the line dancers in the audience.

We decided to record the song with Lachlan Bryan and Damian Cafarella at EOR Recording Studios in Melbourne who did an amazing job as always. Lachlan did the video and Keith Davies of ‘Dancin’ Lines’ line dancing school created a line dance routine for the song.

We filmed the video in a suburban hall featuring Keith and his dancers. The Weeping Willows busy schedule precluded them from the video so we organised a couple of friends, and huge Weeping Willows fans, Rick and Suzi Little to film a cameo role playing the part of Laura and Andy.

We hope you enjoy “Thigh Slappin’ Boogie”.
