Coad Sisters – Big Red

Written by Virginia Hermel (of the COAD SISTERS) ‘Big Red’ is a song about one of Australia’s racing legends, Phar Lap.

“We had a framed colour photo of Phar Lap on the wall at home.” Virginia said. “I was inspired to write the song when I recently saw our photo of Phar Lap again, and realised 2022 was the 90 year anniversary of his death.

‘Big Red’ was one of the favourite nicknames by which Phar Lap was known, so that seemed a logical song title.

Little did I think as a child that so many years later that photo would lead to me writing a song about Phar Lap.”
