Jodi Vaughan – Aussie Proud
Performing in Tamworth 2020 inspired me to write “Aussie Proud”. I didn’t realise how proud I was to call myself Australian. Born in Balmain my start in life was a little rough. I can still remember the address where we lived. It was Campbell St Balmain. I visited the old house on one of my visits. That was very emotional for me.
Earliest memories of my childhood days in Shellharbour were pure joy. I always visit Shellharbour whenever I get home. I visit the primary school where I spent many happy days singing in the playground to my school mates, one of whom I still call on the phone regularly. We chat about those days and all the fun we had.
We really did have campfires on the beach as teens. Sitting around the fire singing our favourite songs which more often than not were country songs. The first band I ever sang with “The Tornadoes” had a manager who insisted I sing country and so the first country song I ever sang was patsy clines’ “I Fall To Pieces. Still singing it!!
I am so proud to share my songs with Australia and this particular song is very close to my heart. It is the first song I have ever written about Australia and I promise it will not be the last. No matter where this “Balmain girl” lays her head she will always be an “Aussie” and “AUSSIE PROUD”
