I saw him standing alone, the night was hiding his face but never his pain. He had fought in this bloody war for too long, lost many a friend and had forgotten where he belonged. It was heavy, too heavy, the cross that he carried each day.
He never thought that this would be his lot, never thought that man would be so cruel, so empty and totally to lose sight of what life is really about.
I saw myself, on the edge of the road, reaching out a hand. Come and take it I said, and in my childlike belief I offered him a sanctuary, a safe haven from his crying.
Then I saw him shake his head, don’t you know he said, I have to accept that the road will keep winding and that I will get left behind. I have to accept that tomorrow, the sun might not shine for me.
The blood and the sun are mixed together like a pallet of fire before his eyes, he knows it will turn him blind and he has nowhere to run. Only rivers and oceans know the turbulence he feels, only in his dreams he see’s the ones he loves, embrace him.
I told him that there is a better place, a place where he wont be forgotten or left behind and a place where the grey of humanity gets turned into an uplifting blue.
I held his hand and looked deep into his eyes, they were the most beautiful blue.
