Anne Fraser – Uncle John’s Guitar
After a long days at work at my fathers service station, I would head home on a Friday night with one plan in mind…

Often freezing cold and pouring with rain I would head out of town to a little place in-between Mt Gambier and Port MacDonnell in South Australia. Named “Allendale” it sits amongst the limestone and green paddocks in the states south east.

The memory of white metal roads and negotiating potholes is vivid and being alert for straying cattle on the roads.

Uncle John was a prominent and much loved figure in my youth, not only was he smart, inventive and humorous, he had a voice somewhere in between Roy Orbison and Don Williams and this was backed up by the beautiful harmonies of his dear wife Eunice. He played guitar like he had made it himself and in later years that is exactly what he did.

I will never forget those days and nights spent at the farm, rolling down Sandhills during the day and in the lounge at night with a duo that mesmerised you. The laughter and pranks will stay with me but more than that is the sincerity of their love and an acceptance to take you exactly the way you were.

 Live on…..Uncle Johns Guitar X
